Wakeboarding combines elements of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing
to create a new form of water sport.
A rider is towed by a boat standing sideways while being attached via bindings to
to a floatable board with a convex tip.
The rope which tows the rider is attached to a wakeboarding boat and is about
2 metres above the water line.
The wakeboarding boat is weighted and trimmed and uses strategically placed
ballasts tanks to create large wakes which the wakeboarding rider
can use to launch themselves into the air.
Wakeboarding Tricks As with many freestyle sports, wakeboarding comes with its own set of tricks
which are performed by cutting rapidly towards the wake on either
the heelside or toeside.
Common terms used for describing wakeboarding tricks include
off-axis, tantrum, elephant, whirlybird and toeside/heelside 360.
