Climbing walls are artificially constructed walls with grips for hands and feet, used for enthusiasts
who wish to simulate rock climbing indoors.
Most modern climbing walls are constructed from thick multiplex boards with holes drilled into them at
regular intervals.
Each hole consists of a specially formed t-nut which allow modular hand holds to be
screwed on to the wall.
Surfaces of climbing walls are covered with a variety of textured products which include paint, concrete and/or
polyurathane.
Climbing walls may also contain additional surface structures such as small indentions and protrusions,
or take the form of an overhang, underhang or crack.
Some grips are specially formed to mimic the conditions of outdoor rock, including some that are oversized
and can have other grips bolted onto them.
Climbing Walls Routes and Grading Grips with specific colors are used to denote a route on climbing walls
with each route being graded with its own degree of difficulty.
A climber attempting a given route on a climbing wall can only use the designated
color of the route as handholds.
